Whilst preparing for the recent ‘In Training For a Heroine: Jane Austen’s Writing Desk’, a temporary exhibition in Southampton, I explored some of the historic sites that she would have visited when living in the town and that (probably) informed her writing. One of these is the spectacular ruins of Netley Abbey.
